Double delight for ELGP as two Hyndburn councilors join the Greens

Cllr Paddy Short from Peel ward and Cllr Caroline Montague from Barnfield ward officially became Green councillors from 22nd September 2022 after an announcement at a full council meeting in Hyndburn.

The pair left a striife-torn"toxic" Hyndburn Labour Party in May 2022 to become Independents.

"We both realised that Green Party policies and intentions aligned to our beliefs and what we were elected on for our residents.

 It's been a whirlwind.

The caring culture of the Green Party could'n't be more of a contrastt with Hyndburn Lbour," says Paddy.

Caroline adds,"

Three things that convinced us the Green Party was the right way to go.

  • That as a socialist we would find a welcome in the Green Party. That both Climate Justice and Social Justice held equal weight in its policies and priorities.

  • That the Green Party recognised its need to culturally diversify its membership and would support us in working with them locally to do this.

  • That the Green Party policies and commitment on climate change, carbon footprint and recycling locally was fully supported - as I have been given The Green Ambassador Role for 2022/2023."
Joan West, ELGP Hyndburn Coordinator says

"All of East Lancashire Green Party welcomes Caroline and Paddy   to take their place as members of the local party and to serve as Green Councillors in their respective wards in Hyndburn.Cllr Caroline Montague had already been given The Green Ambassador Role for 2022/2023.

As the irrelavence of the two main political parties becomes ever more evident, long standing allegiances are being cast aside.  More and more people are looking for a different kind of politics and turning to the Green Party. There has never been a better time for those seeking social and environmental justice to come together to work for a better future."
